Columbia College Honorary Lecture Series

March 27th, 2010 by admin
Respond

The Columbia College Honorary Lecture Series, HLS, was conceived by the Columbia College Student Council, CCSC, as a way of manifesting what is so foundational to the undergraduate experience and community – awareness of and engagement with the world around us. HLS is an opportunity to invite a renowned speaker to campus to speak about a topic of his/her expertise, familiarity, or current interest.

CCSC would like to invite you to the first lecture of the HLS, “Whatever Happened to Civil Disagreement?,” given by Michele Moody-Adams, the Dean of Columbia College. All members of the Columbia community are invited to attend.

Dean Moody-Adams is also Vice President for Undergraduate Education, Joseph Straus Professor of Political Philosophy and Legal Theory in Columbia’s Philosophy Department, and Henry L. and Lucy G. Moses Professor. Dean Moody-Adams does research and teaching on a variety of issues in ethical theory, the history of ethics, political philosophy, practical ethics, the philosophy of law, and the history of philosophy. She has published on such topics as moral relativism, moral objectivity, and moral psychology, as well as on problems of social and economic justice, feminism and equality, and the moral implications of reproductive technologies.

Date: Monday, April 19th
Place: Roone Arledge Cinema
Time: 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Following the event, there will be a reception with light refreshments in the Piano lounge for guests to mingle and speak with Dean Moody-Adams.
